Definition of Toolbox Meeting
Toolbox meetings are one of the HSE/K3 activities which discuss safety, health, security, and control of the work to be carried out. This activity informs or introduces workers to everything related to K3/HSE and is usually carried out in the morning before starting work. All departments are required to take part in this activity. In other words, the toolbox meeting is attended by all workers, including leaders/supervisors. When toolbox meetings are taking place, usually workers and supervisors will discuss general safety training, use of personal protective equipment, and exchange knowledge or practices regarding safety for workers.
The purpose of having a toolbox meeting is to ensure that working conditions are safely under control so that workers can work smoothly and avoid unwanted incidents. Even though toolbox meetings are generally held in the morning and last very short, approximately 5-10 minutes, these discussions can reduce unwanted incidents in the work environment if this activity is carried out regularly every day. Safety Culture stated that there was a recent report that companies that held toolbox meetings regularly every day experienced a drastic reduction in incidents in the work environment by 64% compared to companies that held them only every month.
