Definition of PPE

One of the applications of HSE in a company is the use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). PPE is equipment that must be used when carrying out operational activities so that it can create a safe work environment and avoid all types of unwanted accidents. It includes a wide range of items designed to protect various parts of the body, such as the eyes, head, ears, hands, respiratory system, body, and feet. PPE is used to prevent injuries and illnesses by shielding workers from biological, chemical, physical, and other hazards

 

The use of PPE is really important and should not be underestimated because PPE helps prevent injuries and accidents, and ensures employee health. PPE must be used according to the type of work and ensure that the PPE product is safe and meets the required safety standards. Every company must provide training for its employees to use PPE correctly and there must be supervision from the HSE division so that they use PPE following established standards.

 

PPE has many equipment safety and its function, such as:

  1.  Head Protection
    To protect from falling or flying objects, and overhead objects.
  2. Eye Protection
    To protect from blowing dust or particles, metal shavings, acids or caustic liquids, welding light.
  3. Hand Protection
    To protect from sharp or hot objects, chemicals, biological or electrical hazards.
  4. Chaps Pants
    To protect legs and made from cut-resistant material.
  5. Hearing Protection.
    To protect from loud tools and machinery, poorly maintained equipment.
  6. High Visibility Vest/Clothing.
    As a marker with the high visibility, to protect from errant vehicles or distracted drivers.
  7. Harness Fall Protection.
    To protect when working more than 6 feet or more above a lower level.
  8. Steel-Toed Boots.
    To protect feet from falling or rolling objects, sharp or heavy objects, slippery surfaces, uneven surfaces, hot surfaces, and electrical hazards.
